D155 -- Paradise Fever
Part I
Caitlin and Colter are in the house, Thomas is at his SCUBA class and I'm sitting on the porch of the house looking across the Mediterranean Sea to the mountains of Turkey. It's about 40 miles away and today is the first day it's been clear enough to see all the way over. The water is a beautiful cobalt blue and there's a strong breeze that, mixed with the bright sun, makes the temperature just perfect. Sepp the dog is relaxing on the floor right behind me. The only thing about this scene that is not completely perfect is the loud cicadas in the pine tree to my right. All I have to do to restore peace, however, is to walk over to the tree. Apparently they're a bit shy.
I usually wait until the end of the day to write a blog entry (or let's face it... up to two weeks later), but I just couldn't resist writing in this wonderful peace.
So here's how I predict the day will end: Thomas will come home. We'll all eat lunch, go for a walk, go shopping for local crafts, cook some fajitas and rice for dinner, and walk up to the pub to finish the day with a few beers and some card playing.
Part II
And my prediction... was wrong. Unfortunately, Thomas came home from his class burning up with a fever. He seemed to feel okay, so we still went out to lunch – at an Aussie chain called Stone Grill where you cook your own beef on a hot stone. A word of warning: if you ever visit one of these establishments, do not, I repeat, DO NOT leave your fork on the hot stone and then put it in your mouth. Ouch – my poor upper lip!
A couple of quick errands later and we were back at the house.
We both took naps, and then Thomas spent most of the night playing a computer game with Caitlin and Colter. Three people in one room on laptops... too funny! The weather was just too gorgeous for me to be inside, so I took Sepp for a walk. I really enjoyed walking through the picturesque village with its beautiful sunset views of the ocean and mountains, but it made me a bit sad missing my own dog. None of us were very hungry after our huge lunch, so we all just foraged a bit in the kitchen. After the computer game fest and dog walking we all watched a movie together. We're hoping Thomas feels better tomorrow.
