D159 -- 1st ID Memorial

This morning we visited a memorial that the 1st Infantry Division built to honor those soldiers who had fallen in Operation Iraqi Freedom and the war on terrorism. The memorial is currently located at a U.S. Army post in Wurzburg, but it will eventually move to Kansas, where the 1ID is being reassigned. We had a difficult time finding someone who could sign us on post, but Heidi again came through for us, this time putting us in contact with friends from her and Sean's days in Germany who still had some pull in Wurzburg (thank you Patti and John).

I found the memorial to be very impressive, and I'm sure Sean is really happy with it. I thought it was appropriate that the memorial was designed by a soldier in the division. I'm glad it will soon be on US soil so that other Americans can visit it, and I look forward to taking a trip with my dad one day so he can see it as well.

Our afternoon was spent traveling to Venice, and we'll share our impressions of the city tomorrow.
