D162 -- The island of Murano

Today we set off for Murano, a small island a short boat ride from Venice. For you glass aficionados, you will recognize the name as home to perhaps the most well known blown glass in the world. I of course could care less, but Elva was chomping at the bit to finally do some shopping, so off we went. There was actually a pretty cool museum on the island dedicated to the history of blown glass, which dates back to the 1st century B.C. Although the museum contained many old pieces, there were contemporary pieces as well. This one was our favorite.

Murano was like a small, less crowded version of Venice, so it was nice to walk the streets strolling in and out of stores. Most of the glass pieces are quite pricey, but there are bargains to be had, and Elva picked up a few things.

In the afternoon Elva decided to stop by the Correr Museum while I explored some of the quieter sections of Venice. While Venice has been beautiful, it has really put a dent in our budget, so tonight we dined on takeaway pizza in our hotel room. At some point we remarked how much time we've spent together during this trip. We figured that we've spent more time together these past six months than we did our first year and a half of marriage combined.
